A physical and virtual move
Madrid 2026On July 1st the lease of the apartment where I was staying expired. I was running out of time without finding anything adequate for a long term rental, so I took a place that was being rented for two months during the summer at a reduced price. This will buy me time to move again, though I’m not looking forward to it. Moving is a hassle.
I also moved to Hetzner from DigitalOcean. Claude was the cause and the solution to all my problems. In the end I was glad that Claude forced the migration, it leaves my CMS modernized through Astro and ready for the agentic era. There’s still a considerable amount of slop, but I knew that if I got caught up in the details I would never complete the migration. I’ll improve gradually, I hope.
I had an interaction with a possible swindler through Idealista, there were a couple of yellow flags but I decided to play with fire. The mental and emotional chess that you play with swindlers is interesting: I played naive to entice him to take advantage of me, but he refused. This could be because he was aware of my game, or because he was an honest person. However, I continued playing being over-eager and over-willing, but after he sent me the documentation I said I’d make the transfer in the morning. The next morning I saw a deleted message, which I suppose was some form of pressure he regretted writing. The next day I checked his DNI against the tax registry and confirmed his ID was real. The name on his bank account also matched his ID. I was estimating a 20% chance of him being a swindler, still too much to make a transfer. He asked me about the transfer, I said “I’ll run a check in the property registry to see if the apartment is in your name, if you have something to clear up now is a good time”. After an hour or so, he replied that another person had made the deposit and that the flat was going to them.
As I had not enough proof to know if this was a fraud I didn’t report them on idealista. But after a week I still saw the apartment listed, my perception switched to 80% fraud 20% legit and I reported them. The listing was taken off the site since then.
